Talk:Time Machine deck

This is a direct ripoff of Chrononauts (search the web for it, you'll find it). Unless paper & ink are free and you really don't want the better game, I'd really recommend it instead. --Arthur, 1.3.02
Yes, the deck was idly inspired by someone's brief summary of Chrononauts (which, on closer inspection, is rather more intricate, and fairly different in structure); we're not trying to ruthlessly undercut anyone, here, we're just archiving Dvorak games that people have played to pass the time. --Kevan, 1.3.02
Chrononauts (http://www.wunderland.com/LooneyLabs/Chrononauts) is not only an award-winning game in its own right, but its humor, ease of play, and incredibly short learning curve make it a really good game. Also, as far as I know, it has a patent pending on the time travel mechanism (which is not used in this Dvorak game, but does further muddy the water). --Liam, 1.3.02
Re: Obvious Chrononauts plagiarism - you really need to put a large disclaimer at the top of this page admitting such or remove it entirely...it's not an mp3 file. --Chris, 1.3.02
There is not much fear that this will replace Chrononauts, although it would be nice if the authors gave credit to the original inventor. --Jacob, 1.3.02
I've never actually played this deck, but I'd say it was different enough from Chrononauts to seem a coincidence (except for the goal, which made me suspicious.) Of course, Kevan says it was inspired by a summary of Chrononauts anyway. --Sniffnoy, 1.3.02
Tinted hindsight, perhaps, but I'd probably come up with something similar to the above if someone said "Hey, let's make a simple time-travel card game." - a way to represent each traveller's location on the timeline (which seems quite different to Chrononauts), and a way to keep track of the various changes to history. And lots of Actions to muck stuff around (again, fairly different to 'Nauts). Chrononauts looks a cool thing, though. Also Cheapass' Games "Patent Number One"... --Stephen, 1.3.02
Also Cheapass' Games "Patent Number One"... Which unfortunately has nothing to do with time travel--it's just color. --Dale, 2.3.02
Hey - this game is an obvious STEAL of Chronaonauts - how do you sleep at night!!! --leslie , 5.3.02
CHEATERS, Thiefs!! --Lill, 5.3.02
Hello. Dvorak is a simple card game system which players inject vague ideas into, and the vague idea one afternoon happened to be time travel, after a third party had mumbled a few sentences about Chrononauts earlier in the day. This different and less-elegant implementation of some basic time-travel ideas amused three people for a while, and the deck was put into a public archive along with everything else. We're not selling it, we're not claiming it's spectacularly good, and the earlier lack of attribution was accidental (Chrononauts was namechecked on the mailing list when this deck was unveiled last year). Andrew Looney was "really only irked at being uncredited", in private email. --Kevan, 5.3.02
So, when do the pictures get uploaded? --Eric, 27.3.02
When I get a scanner, possibly. Unless you're talking in the wrong place about the Arcade Game pictures, in which case; when I've got the time to update the .ddd file. Soon. --Kevan, 28.3.02
Wow. Serious words. I'm just wondering if all the people who have sat down to type such vitriol have thought how they might create a time-travel card deck. I'm sure there are only so many ways in which it can be done. What's more if its not being done for any kind of profit I hardly think there's any need to get so upset. Personally I liked it. --Sandy, 31.3.02
I'm gonna agree with Sandy. There are similarities to Chrononauts (which i own and enjoy). So what? They made a game, which is rather entertaining, in leiu of spending money. good for them! then they gave it to all of you. now, wasn't that nice? but you all just complain. if you don't like it, don't play it, it's that simple. --Benjamin, 12.8.03
Hear Hear! I really liked the Mechwarrior card game, which I can't seem to find anywhere, so I was toying with the idea of creating a Dvorak version of the same, for my own personal use... Not to sell... If no sale, no profit, therefore no thievery. Leslie and Lill need to CHILL. --Jonathan, 29.9.04
