This deck was created as part of a demonstration of the Dvorak game-making process during the 2010 Baltimore DIY Fest. As Halloween was approaching, we decided to create a deck related to that theme. The result is a high player-interaction, pumpkin-snatching game which is high on fun, and fairly strategic.
Special Rules
Pumpkins
The first player to collect 5 pumpkins wins the game. To collect a pumpkin, play it from your hand as a Special Thing (does not count towards your total of Things played during your turn), one at a time. That pumpkin is now "up for grabs."
Play Combat Action cards to claim a pumpkin; the player with the highest number of Action Points during that Combat wins the pumpkin currently up for grabs, and places it on the table in front of them. If no other players have Combat Action cards to play, then the player who played the pumpkin wins it uncontested.
More than one pumpkin can be played by a player during a single turn; contested pumpkins are resolved one at a time.
Combat Action Cards
As described above, these cards are played when a pumpkin is "up for grabs." These are Special Action Cards, and do not count against a player's permitted Action cards played that round.
Each Combat Action Card has a number assigned to it, displayed in the upper corner(s) of the card. Add these up to determine the Combat Points that player has for that particular Combat.
Once a pumpkin is claimed, all played Combat Action Cards go into the Discard pile.
Issues and Costumes
Issues and Costumes are Thing cards (playable one per turn) that have permanent effects until destroyed, discarded, or stolen. Read the Card and any corresponding Action Cards for more details.
A player can have only one Costume Thing active at any one time, and must Discard their current one to activate another. A player has no limit to the number of Issues permitted to be in play.
Stash Cards
Players may store pumpkins they have won in their Stash. These are Thing cards played on the table in front of the player.
To protect pumpkins with a Stash, simply place the pumpkin cards underneath the Stash, making sure players do not place more than the permitted number of pumpkins in that Stash.
There is no limit to the number of Stash cards any one player may have in play.
