Instructions and notes

This is a game based on Spore, Will Wright's next big game. As in the video game, you play this deck as a creature's mentor, leading it from the tiny unicellular organism to a civilized, technologic creature. You have to make your creature evolve by adding parts to its body. The game ends when there is only one player remaining, or when some specific goals are reached.

Beware, this is no easy deck to play !

Special rules

Start

  • Every player chooses one Blob card to start with. Organs will be attached as the game goes.
  • The remaining Blob cards must be set aside from the game.

Cards

  • You can play up to 2 Action cards per turn and per player.
  • Things cards can be :
    • Blobs, the most basic part of a creature. They each have a Health value, Muscle, a Defense and a Speed. (will be referred to by their initials.)
    • Body parts (categorized under Limbs, Mouth, Hands, Feet, Sensory and Misc) that can be attached to a player's blob by its owner. They alter the main blob's values.
Note : Hands and Feet can't be directly attached to the blob : you need to attach them to a Limb, that is itself attached to the blob. Also, if a limb is destroyed, everything attached to it is destroyed as well.
    • Buildings that can only be used when the player is in Civilisation Phase and over; those can be damaged and destroyed. When destroyed, they are placed in the discard pile.
    • Equipement that can only be used when the player is in Tribal Phase and over; those can be attached to a creature's body part when the body part it concerns exists (ie no gloves if your creature has no hands !). They also alter the blob's values.
    • Others - they can have various effects.

Values

Along with the blobs' values (Health, Muscle, Defense and Speed), each player has some values to keep track of (on a sheet of paper). These are :

  • Population, useful starting from the Tribal Phase and after. Before that phase, your population is always 1.
  • ...

Phases

  • Every player starts with the Creature Phase. During that phase, you can't use any Building or Equipement cards.
Your goal is to reach a total of at least 20 when you add your Muscle, Defense and Speed together (not Health). That is, if your (Muscle+Defense+Speed) is equal or over 20, you must proceed to the next phase.
During this phase, whenever you draw a Building or Equipement card, you are allowed to keep it in a face-down pile next to you, or you can discard it immediately. If this pile consists of more than 5 cards, discard it down to 5 cards. Note that that pile will be called Waiting Pile.
  • Tribal Phase : during that phase, you can't have Building cards : if you draw any, put it in your Waiting Pile.
Your goal is to have a population of 3 or more. Individuals will be added to your population through Action cards; keep track of your population on a sheet of paper. Whenever you have 3 individuals or more in your population, you must proceed to the Civilization Phase.
  • Civilization Phase : you can use any card you have. You can't put anything in your Waiting Pile, but you can draw a card from it whenever you feel the need and you have nomore than 5 cards in hand, until your Waiting Pile is empty.
From here, the ways to win the game are many, and depend on the cards you draw.
