I've wanted to do a game based on Vonnegut's works for a long time. Dvorak seems like an appropriate medium, so let's get started. Please feel free to contribute on this page! VTBassMatt 17:31, 30 April 2007 (BST)

Gameplay

  • Collect some number of Vonnegut books (Thing - Book) to win
    • Pro: easy to think of ways where characters could jump in and out of the books to mess with gameplay; easy for players to keep track of
    • Con: this mechanic has been done. And done. And done.
  • Collect all the attributes of a given Vonnegut book to win (so you'd need a Thing - Book, a Thing - Character from that book, a Thing - Plot Device from that book, etc.)
    • Pro: fairly easy to imagine how this would look; slightly more interesting mechanic than the previous idea
    • Con: may be difficult to get all the right cards in play at the right time
  • Create an appropriately Vonnegutian story by putting together characters, plots, etc. from several of his books
    • Pro: interesting new mechanic; we have K.V.'s own "eight rules" from Bagombo Snuff Box that we could perhaps play on
    • Con: may be more complicated for players, and complexity isn't usually an indicator of fun

I'm leaning towards the third option today, but I think there may be better mechanics out there. VTBassMatt 17:31, 30 April 2007 (BST)

Theme

One thing I want to be sure of is that the game doesn't just use the verbs and nouns from K.V.'s writing; I want the game to actually feel like something Vonnegut could have written (or would at least enjoy). Thoughts on how to do this? VTBassMatt 17:31, 30 April 2007 (BST)
